Met Eireann has forecast unusually warm temperatures over the coming days - but has warned they will be accompanied by a thunderstorm deluge.
The national forecaster says the mercury could reach near 20C this weekend, while next week’s weather “will have slightly higher than typical temperatures for the time of year”.
Don’t put away your umbrella just yet however, as there will be heavy rain at times, with a chance of thundery downpours and spot flooding.

Giving its overall forecast for this weekend, Met Eireann said: “Any mist and fog will clear Saturday morning. There will be a mix of sunshine and scattered showers today, most frequent in the afternoon and evening. Some of the showers will be heavy and there is a chance of thundery downpours, which may cause spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C in a light southerly breeze.
“Showers will die out early Saturday night, leaving dry and partly cloudy conditions for the rest of the night. Patches of mist and fog will form in light southerly or variable breezes. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 11C.
“Sunday will start dry with some sunny spells. Patches of light rain or drizzle will develop in the southwest and west later in the morning. More widespread and heavier rain will move into Munster and Connacht during the afternoon and will extend to most areas in the evening, although the northeast will stay dry until nightfall. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C, warmest in the midlands and east, with a light to moderate southerly breeze.
“Cloudy and wet Sunday night as outbreaks of rain and drizzle continue to move northeastwards across the country. Very mild as temperatures remain above 11C to 13C degrees, in a light to moderate southerly breeze.”
Looking ahead to next week, it said the weather will be “very mild at first” before becoming “a little cooler from Tuesday”.
The forecast says the unsettled conditions will continue.
Giving a day by day breakdown, the national forecaster said: “Monday morning will be cloudy with scattered rain and drizzle. This will clear to sunny spells and scattered showers for the afternoon and evening, with some heavy and thundery showers possible. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C, warmest in the east, in a light to moderate south to southwest breeze.
“Showers will become less widespread on Monday night, mainly affecting western areas. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 10C in a light southwesterly breeze.
“Sunny spells and scattered showers at first Tuesday, becoming cloudier later in the day with more persistent rain moving into the west. Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in a moderate westerly wind.
“Mostly cloudy Tuesday night with outbreaks of rain extending eastwards. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C with a light to moderate southwest to west wind.
“A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers Wednesday. Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in a moderate westerly breeze.
“Staying unsettled for the rest of the week and the weekend, with showers and spells of rain.”
