A Met Eireann forecaster said: "After a mixed start to the week with rain or showers at times, it looks set to turn more settled later in the week with tentative signs high pressure will build near Ireland for the weekend.

"High pressure looks set to be a significant influence on Ireland’s weather as we move towards early September. It looks set to become quite settled with below average rainfall forecast nationwide, driest across the west and north of the country. Mean air temperatures are forecast to be slightly above normal."
But it will be a mixed bag before the pleasant turn in about a weeks time, rain will hit a lot of places today and tomorrow but it will feel very pleasant when dry.
A Met Eireann forecaster added: "Heavy rain this morning in Ulster and Connacht will move southwards today. Drier and sunnier conditions will follow to the north and west later this morning. The south will have a drier start with a few showers and some sunny spells before rain arrives later this afternoon, turning lighter and patchier then.
"Highest temperatures will range from a cool 15 degrees in the northwest up to 22 degrees in the southeast, in moderate to fresh westerly winds, easing later.
"Sunday will bring a mix of cloud and bright or sunny spells. There will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle near the south coast. Elsewhere will be mostly dry, but some patchy rain may spread northwards later in the afternoon and evening. Quite calm in most areas with just light variable winds. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees, humid in the south."
