The weather is set to hot up in the coming days with temperatures reaching the mid to high teens after what has been a chilly start to April.
But it won't be all good news as the forecaster is also predicting unusual amounts of rainfall for the time of year.
Nighttime temperatures will also recover considerably compared to recent nights.
The next 48 hours will be very mixed with sunny spells as well as heavy rain showers at times.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be mostly cloudy and breezy. There will be intermittent falls of light rain or drizzle, mainly affecting the western half of the country. Some eastern parts will have a dry day. Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 or 13 degrees, mildest in the west. Fresh and blustery southeast winds will be strong in western and southwestern coastal areas.
"Generally cloudy tonight with patchy rain or drizzle. A spell of more persistent rain will move into south and west overnight, with heaviest falls in the southwest. Staying rather breezy with moderate to fresh southeast winds. Not as cold as recent nights, with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.
"Heavy rain on Monday morning in some southern counties, a drier start elsewhere. It will be a cloudy to overcast day, with outbreaks of rain spreading northwards during the late morning and afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 or 14 degrees. Moderate to fresh southeast winds will ease later in the day."
Temperatures will reach 16C on Wednesday and Thursday before a dry weekend looks to arrive for Easter.
The forecaster added: " Early indications show that it will be stay mild with showers on Friday. Drier weather over the weekend is suggested, possibly turning cooler for eastern areas though. Winds will generally be light or moderate and southerly."
