Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast stunning weekend on the way as temperatures will soar to 20C

Temperatures are set to soar to 20C this weekend as Met Eireann confirmed the country is in for some stunning weather soon.

It has been an unpredictable and showery week weather-wise but it's all set to change with bright and mild conditions forecast from Friday.

The Irish forecaster has predicted lots of sunshine, lighter winds and very little chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday along with some unexpectedly warm temperatures.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the national forecaster said that Saturday "will be largely dry with sunny spells" and Sunday will be "mainly dry with long spells of sunshine" and highs of up to 20C.

If temperatures stay warm, it could make this the hottest weekend of the year so far, beating this year’s record of 20.9C which was hit on May 15.

Here's a more detailed look at Met Eireann's forecast for the next few days:

Wednesday, May 25

Rain and drizzle clearing this morning to bright or sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. The showers becoming more isolated in the afternoon before gradually dying out this evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees, mildest in the southeast with fresh or strong westerly winds, easing later.

Thursday, May 26

Tomorrow, Thursday, will start off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. This rain will clear southeastwards by early afternoon with bright or sunny spells and one or two showers following. Some southern parts may stay rather cloudy, however. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees. Westerly winds will be moderate in the south and fresh or strong in northern areas.

Friday, May 27

Friday will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and warm sunny spells. Some duller conditions with some patchy outbreaks of drizzle may linger in north Ulster. A little drizzle may also affect the far southwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 19 degrees, mildest along southern coasts, in light to moderate northwest breezes.

Saturday, May 28

Saturday will be largely dry with sunny spells. The odd shower may affect parts of the west. After a cool start in parts, it will turn into a warm day with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees generally, holding a little cooler near northern coasts in light northerly or variable breezes.

Sunday, May 29

Sunday will be mainly dry with long spells of sunshine and highs of 13 to 19 or 20 degrees, coolest along northern and northeastern fringes in light to moderate north to northeasterly breezes, which will be fresher along parts of the east and also the west coast.

Turning cool on Sunday night.
