Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast ‘mini-heatwave’ before major U-turn as temperatures plummet below freezing

Ireland is set for a mixed bag of weather conditions this week as temperatures remain high during the day before plummeting below freezing at night.

Met Eireann has forecast a mini-heatwave to blast Ireland this week as sunny spells spread across the country with just a few isolated showers.

However, things will turn cooler as the weekend approaches and temperatures fall slightly.

A forecaster said on Monday: “A sunny start tomorrow but cloud increasing through the morning with some scattered showers in afternoon before clearing to a sunny evening again. Light Easterly breeze and 11c to 16c, warmest in West.”

Here is a more detailed look at Met Eireann’s forecast.

Largely dry this morning with good sunny spells developing and just the odd shower moving in from the east.

Towards the afternoon, cloud will gather along with well scattered showers, becoming more isolated towards the evening.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees, coolest in the east and mildest in the west, in light to moderate east to southeast breezes.

Tonight will be dry and chilly, with just a few lingering showers.

Lowest temperatures will range between 0 to 5 degrees, with some grass frost forming under long clear spells.

Wednesday, April 27

A dry and sunny start Wednesday morning. It will become cloudier later in the morning and into the afternoon with some showers breaking out.

Highest temperatures of 10 to 16 degrees, coolest in the north and mildest in the west and southwest, in light to moderate easterly breezes.

Dry and mainly clear overnight apart from the odd shower.

Chilly as well, with lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees in light breezes. Some mist and fog patches will develop.

Thursday, April 28

A cloudier day than previous days, but there will still be some sunny spells.

Staying mostly dry with just the odd passing shower. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in mostly light easterly breezes.

Dry, clear and chilly overnight as mist and fog patches will form again with light breezes or near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees.

Friday, April 30

Another dry and sunny start to the day. Once again, cloud will gather along with a few light showers.

Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in mostly light easterly breezes.

Overnight, lowest temperatures will generally range 1 to 5 degrees, but a little milder in the northwest as cloud builds in during the night.

Saturday, April 31

A largely cloudy day with a few outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in light variable breezes.
