Weather warnings have been issued for parts of Spain which will be blasted with extreme heat of over 40C and tourists heading to those parts have been advised to take care.

In Ireland, Met Eireann forecast that highest temperatures expected for next week could be up to 26C in the east and south of the country on Friday.

It will be a drier week as well with very little rainfall in most areas until the end of the week, which could bring some showers.

Alan O'Reilly, of Carlow Weather, said: "Warmer air pushing up later this coming week will bring temperatures over 40c to Spain and France!

"Southern England could get close to 30c and we might see the edge of it with low twenties Friday. If you heading to Spain or France be aware."
