Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast exactly when hot air will arrive as five-day scorcher to come

Ireland's own period of hot weather looks set to arrive, albeit a bit later than the rest of Europe.

While the rest of Europe has been experiencing record breaking heat, parts of Ireland hit low twenties on Friday in a brief glimpse of summer weather.

A cool weekend dip has dampened spirits further but the return of hot air is now just hours away.

Met Eireann are forecasting temperatures as high as 23C in some areas on Monday and up until Friday the mercury will hit 21C or higher every day.

The forecaster said: "Tomorrow will be a largely dry day with spells of warm sunshine. It will become cloudier in the northwest in the evening with some patchy drizzle developing near the coast. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees in light northwest or variable breezes.

"Scattered outbreaks of rain in the morning on Tuesday, gradually clearing southeastwards. Then brighter in the afternoon with spells of sunshine and just a few showers. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, warmest in the southeast, in light northwesterly breezes.

"Dry for many areas with a mix of sunny spells and cloudy periods Wednesday. Some isolated showers about too, especially in the morning and early afternoon. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, coolest in the northwest in a light to moderate northwesterly breeze."

And it will get even better for Thursday and Friday - although it's not looking as great for the weekend.

The forecaster added: "Thursday will bring a good deal of dry weather too with light southwesterly or variable breezes. There will be a mix of cloud and sunny spells and some patchy drizzle at times in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees, warmest over south Leinster.

"Friday will still be quite warm for a time especially in the east where there will be sunny spells and a few showers. However, a weather front is currently predicted to move in from the Atlantic during Friday and on Friday night bringing some rain."
