After a wet and windy end to June, some good weather is finally on the way as a band of high pressure near the Azores edges up to Ireland later this week.
Met Eireann has said low pressure is expected to dominate the country, for a time anyway, bringing unstable air down from the north.
However, high pressure near the Azores may increase from Thursday to Friday, bringing drier conditions.

Temperatures over the period are expected to average out around a degree below average for most areas.
The forecaster added: "Overall, it is expected to be wetter than normal. Some heavy or thundery rain can be expected at times early in the period with the risk of spot flooding. Marine wind warnings are likely to be in operation early in the period too."
Thankfully the weather looks set to improve into next week with drier than normal conditions.
It looks like the Azores high will extend an influence up over Ireland from the southwest. As a result, temperatures are expected to be close to the seasonal average for early July.
Here's a more detailed look at Met Eireann's forecast for this week.
Today, June 27
Generally, dry this morning with sunny spells but with scattered showers too. Cloud increasing from the Atlantic will bring outbreaks of rain and drizzle to western areas during the afternoon and evening.
However, many eastern areas will be dry for much of the day.
Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 or 18 degrees. Light to moderate southwesterly winds will back southerly and freshen into the afternoon, increasing strong along Atlantic coasts.
Wet and breezy tonight with heavy thundery rain bursts leading to spot flooding.
Lowest temperatures 10 to 13 degrees in fresh to strong southerly winds.
Tuesday, June 28
Lingering overnight rain will clear eastwards on Tuesday morning with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers following for the rest of the day.
Rather breezy in mostly fresh southwesterly winds. A milder day with highest temperatures of 14 to 19 degrees, best values across the northeast.
Clear spells and well scattered showers will be seen at night, mainly affecting Atlantic counties towards morning.
Lows of 7 to 10 degrees, in just light southwest breezes.
Wednesday, June 29
Showery conditions will affect the western half of Ireland during the first half of the day, later arriving into the eastern half of the country.
Some sharp, possibly thundery bursts will affect eastern counties around evening.
Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 or 19 degrees, best values away from the Atlantic, all in mostly light westerly breezes.
Thursday, June 30
A similar day following for Thursday with light to moderate westerly winds and scattered thundery showers in the afternoon and evening.
Friday, July 1
Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will affect Atlantic counties, especially later in the day. Mainly dry elsewhere with sunny spells but well scattered showers occurring too.
Highs of 15 to 19 or 20 degrees, all the while, it will be mildest in the east. Southwest breezes will be mainly moderate in strength.
Current indications suggest that whilst conditions will settle down to some degrees, some scattered showers are expected too.
