Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast 19C heat and rain this weekend before Atlantic regime takes hold next week

Some areas of Ireland are due to reach a stunning 19C this weekend as temperatures begin to heat up ahead of the peak summer months.

There will also be downpours of rain in many areas across the weekend, however, things are due to become more unsettled next week as an 'Atlantic regime' takes hold.

Straight away this morning, it will be wet in the north and west with rain spreading southeastwards.

The rain will be heavy in places with possible downpours, especially in the west and midlands.

Sunny spells and well-scattered showers will follow into the northwest towards the afternoon, with the rain clearing the east during the afternoon.

Despite the rainy conditions, highest temperatures will range from 14 to 17 degrees.

Tonight things will remain mostly dry with clear spells though there will be a few isolated showers as temperatures drop to between 4 and 8 degrees.

As the weekend progresses, Saturday morning will see mist and fog will lift from most areas though light southerly or variable breezes will allow some coastal fog to linger through the day.

It’ll be dry for most with spells of hazy sunshine though as patches of light rain and drizzle will move in from the southwest in the afternoon.

The highest temperatures will range from 15 to 19 degrees generally, but it will be a little cooler near coasts where fog and low clouds persist.

On Sunday, mist and fog will clear away early in the morning to leave a day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells with some light outbreaks of rain.

Temperatures will remain mil as highs reach 14 to 18 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest breezes.

It will remain mostly dry overnight with a few patches of drizzle, but clouds will build from the northwest later bringing fresh to strong on Atlantic coasts by morning.

As for next week, the forecaster says: “High pressure will gradually decline to allow for a more Atlantic regime to take hold early next week.

From Monday, the rain will move in from the Atlantic, slowly extending across the country. It will be breezier than recent days in moderate to fresh southwest winds, easing during the evening.

As for the rest of the week, Met Eireann says: “Current indications suggest that it will be more unsettled with breezier conditions at times along with spells of rain.

“Temperatures continuing to reach the mid to high teens.”
