Ireland weather: Met Eireann confirm sudden change on the way as urgent warning issued and cold to return

Ireland is in for a stark change in conditions as the Easter weekend unfolds and met Eireann has even published a 24-hour warning in some areas.

The status yellow rain alert is in place for two counties as the Irish forecaster says there will be “spells of heavy rain for Kerry and west Cork from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday afternoon with localised flooding possible.”

The warning is active from 4:00 pm today until the same time on Sunday afternoon as showers of rain batter the south of the country.

Despite this, it’ll be a bright start today for many with just “a little patchy drizzle” developing along the southern coastal counties with outbreaks of rain hitting the west by the afternoon.

Some hazy sunshine will continue to be seen in the east this afternoon but clouds will continue to thicken across the country as rain begins to push over coastal counties.

Despite the grim weather on its way, temperatures will remain mild with highs of 13 to 17 degrees and moderate southerly winds.

Overnight on Saturday into Sunday morning, further outbreaks of rain will continue and be heaviest and most persistent in the west, with possible localised flooding.

Outbreaks of heavy rain will then spread across the county from early in the morning onwards and will be heaviest and most persistent in the west.

By the afternoon the rain will move away to the east and be followed by showers - some heavy with the risk of hail, especially in the west.

Highest temperatures will remain mild, but are beginning to drop at this point to around 12 to 15 degrees.

Heading into next week then, Monday will bring with it a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers in the early parts of the day.

The showers will be heaviest and most persistent in the northwest with possible hail and temperatures will see a further decline to a range of 10 to 13 degrees.

These showers will persist into the evening but will largely become confined to Atlantic coastal counties.

“Clearer and drier weather will develop in the east of the country and it will be another cold night with lows of 1 to 4 degrees with a westerly breeze,” according to the Irish forecaster.

Tuesday is due to start off bright and calm, but showers will develop in the afternoon and persist into the evening.

Wednesday will mark a slight turnaround in conditions with some good sunny spells and just a shower or two in the afternoon.
