Ireland weather: Met Eireann confirm date for return of miserable conditions before another major turnaround

Ireland is set to bask in the sunshine for the beginning of this week as temperatures climb as high as 19 degrees over the coming days.

However, the usually sunny weather will be short-lived as the Met Eireann confirmed that rain would return on Wednesday.

Thankfully the damp conditions won’t be sticking around for too long as sunshine is set to return once again on Friday.

A forecaster said: “Weather outlook is generally dry up to Wednesday with just odd light shower but rain then on Thursday. Heaviest in West and moving across country but timing is uncertain. Looking better again after Thursday with look rainfall. Temperatures increasing a little for next few days."

Ireland Map (Met Eireann)

Here is a more detailed look at Met Eireann’s forecast.

Monday, September 19

While it will remain mostly cloudy today, there will be some sunny breaks at times. Largely dry again also, with just the chance of a few isolated light showers.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in mostly light southwest to west breezes.

There will be a mix of cloud and clear spells overnight, with some patchy light rain or drizzle developing in the north and west.

Mild with lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees, and while winds will be mostly light variable or calm, along western coasts, southwest winds will increase moderate to occasionally fresh.

Tuesday, September 20

Tuesday will be fairly cloudy, but there will be pleasant sunny breaks too. And while it will continue mostly dry, there will be outbreaks of light rain or drizzle, mostly in the north and west.

Mild and humid with highest temperatures of 17 to 19 degrees, in light to moderate southerly breezes, fresh at times along western coasts.

Staying mild with a mix of cloud and clear spells on Tuesday night and just the chance of some light rain or drizzle along western and northwestern fringes.

Lowest temperatures staying above 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes.

Wednesday, September 21

Mostly cloudy on Wednesday with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle continuing in the west and north with patchy drizzle elsewhere.

Light to moderate southerly winds in the morning, increasing moderate to fresh southwesterly later. Staying mild with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

Wednesday night will be wet and breezy as the rain gradually extends from the Atlantic across much of the country, with some locally heavy falls at times.

Remaining dry though in the southeast till morning. Staying very mild and humid overnight with temperatures holding above 12 to 15 degrees, in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.

Thursday, September 22

The rain will clear the northwest during the morning on Thursday and further clearing all but the southeast by evening.

The rain will be followed by mostly dry and sunny conditions but also cooler for the rest of the day.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees, warmest in the southeast, with moderate southwest winds veering northwesterly and easing light as the rain clears.

Mostly dry with long clear spells overnight, although a few showers may extend into the southwest from the Atlantic towards morning.

Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light northerly breezes.

Friday, September 23

Clear and sunny for the most part on Friday, although there may be a few stray showers about during the early afternoon.

Feeling fresher, though, as light to moderate northerly winds hold temperatures between 14 and 17 degrees generally.

Staying fairly settled on Saturday, but there is potential for wet and windy weather on Sunday.
