Met Eireann’s forecast for the week shows high pressure dominating with a predominantly northwest flow ensuring temperatures remain around average for the year.
The unusual forecast shows settled conditions being hampered by rain and light winds in some areas. However, others will see things remain calm over the coming days.
The north of the country is due to see the worst of conditions, with rain arriving in and temperatures on the lower end of the scale.

As for the Monday ahead, it will be rather cloudy today with a little breeze being felt this morning and scattered showers. Despite this, it will be largely dry for the afternoon and evening as rain becomes isolated.
Things will brighten up later on with better sunny spells developing and highest temperatures of 15 degrees in the northwest to 20 degrees in the southeast expected.
Tomorrow will be mostly dry with a mix of cloud and sunshine. There will be isolated showers in some areas as well, with highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees expected with a light northerly breeze.
The general outlook for the week ahead according to Met Eireann features “a good deal of dry weather midweek, becoming wet again from Friday and over the weekend.”
Wednesday will see cloud building through the morning, and scattered showers develop in some areas. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees are expected with light southerly breezes.
Thursday is due to be mainly dry on Thursday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and there will be a few showers in some parts.
Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees are predicted with light easterly breezes.
Heading towards the end of the week, Friday will be largely dry and bright start, however rain will begin to move in from the Atlantic.
At this point the Irish forecaster says “the timing of the rain is uncertain - some eastern areas may stay dry until Friday night.”
Highs of 19 to 22 degrees are expected with a moderate southerly airflow developing.
As for the weekend, “Outbreaks of rain expected,” with “temperatures in the high teens or low twenties.”
For anyone awaiting a return of summer, the forecaster has predicted that from August 8, ”high pressure builds in over the country bringing drier than average conditions across the country, temperatures will remain near average for the time of year in most areas, perhaps a little above average in the southeast.
“The potential for hazards will be low across the country through the period.”
