Ireland could be in for a midweek heatwave, with Met Eireann saying temperatures in the high 20s are possible.
The meteorological service has issued a glorious weather forecast for the coming days, saying that “heatwave conditions are possible”.
It said Ireland can expect “hot sunshine” and “dry and sunny spells” with “temperatures likely to remain well above average” in a "prolonged spell of settled weather".

Heatwaves are often defined as five days of consecutive above average temperatures. A Met Eireann forecaster previously told the Irish Mirror: "That is a working definition used by some other met offices, but the Met Eireann definition of a heatwave is five consecutive days of temperatures above 25C.”
Looking ahead to next week, the national forecaster said: “High pressure will bring a prolonged spell of settled weather - very warm or even hot with possible heatwave conditions.”
Temperatures are due to build by the day, with the warm weather starting today.
Giving Sunday’s forecast, Met Eireann said: “Cloud and patchy light rain will affect Ulster for a time this morning, mainly along northern coasts. Early morning mist or fog in parts too. Sunnier elsewhere though and generally dry, outside of stray light showers. Brightening up across Ulster through the day with a mostly sunny end to the day nationwide.
“Feeling warm with highest temperatures of 18C to 22C in a light to moderate westerly breeze.”
Tomorrow will see temperatures rise further. It said: “Once again Monday will be a dry day for most with long spells of summer sunshine - just the chance of showers in the far northwest. Warm with top temperatures ranging from 19C to 23C in just light variable mainly southwest breezes.”
The “possible heatwave conditions” could kick in from Tuesday.
Met Eireann said: “Long spells of hazy summer sunshine through the day on Tuesday with top temperatures ranging a warm 21C to 24C in light southwest or variable winds. Dry with clear spells on Tuesday night.
“Another dry calm and mostly fine day on Wednesday with prolonged spells of sunshine - any early morning mist/fog will burn of quickly. Warmer again with top values of 22C to 26C. Long clear spells overnight with some mist or fog developing once again in mostly light winds. Very mild with minima of 11C to 15C.
“Little change on Thursday and Friday with warm or hot sunshine. Temperatures will climb to the mid 20s or possibly even high 20s. Warm and close after-dark too with minima of 15C to 19C.”
Giving its further outlook for next weekend, it said: “High pressure is expected to remain positioned close to Ireland bringing mostly dry weather with sunny spells - temperatures are likely to remain well above average.”
