Temperatures are set to soar to 20C in the coming days as Ireland enjoys up to four weeks of good weather.
Met Eireann’s monthly forecast makes for pleasant reading, with the national forecaster predicting that “above average temperatures” could persist for the entire month of May.
It comes after what was a wet and dull bank holiday weekend for many, but things are set to take a turn for the better from Monday.

The meteorological service says it’s due to brighten up with sunny spells developing in the afternoon and temperatures up to 17C.
It will be more of the same throughout this week, with temperatures increasing by the day and could hit 20C by the weekend.
A forecaster said: “High pressure is set to dominate our weather this week in a mostly northwesterly airflow. There will be a good deal of dry weather with below average rainfall amounts expected, especially in the southwest. It will be milder than average as well.
“Winds will be mostly light or moderate with mist and fog likely developing during the nights.
“It looks like the weekend will be mainly dry with sunny spells, light breezes and temperatures in the high teens and possibly touching 20C at times.”
Met Eireann says that “forecasts beyond one week become increasingly uncertain due to the chaotic nature of the atmosphere”, but it does make monthly predictions to help “give an insight into weather patterns in the month ahead”.
And it's good news for the remainder of May as above average temperatures look set to persist.
Looking ahead to next week (May 9 - 15), Met Eireann said: “There is a less settled picture in store for week two with high pressure moving away. There will likely be drier than average conditions over much of the western half of the country with more normal rainfall amounts expected further east. Temperatures will likely remain above average for the time of year.”
For the following week (May 16 - 22 ), the national forecaster continued: “For week three, the signal is weaker overall but it suggests that there will be high pressure out to the west with a potential north to northwest airflow bringing in drier than average conditions though some showers will feed into the north and northwest with more normal amounts there. Milder conditions will likely persist in week three as well.”
Temperatures are set to stay “slightly above average” by the end of the month (May 23 - 29).
A forecaster predicted: “In week four, there is a weak signal for low pressure to build from the north bringing more unsettled conditions with above average rainfall amounts possible for much of the country. Temperatures will likely return closer to normal though may still be slightly above average.”
