A weather expert has spotted ‘squall lines’ on the rainfall radar for Ireland as brutal conditions head our way.
A squall line is a line of severe thunderstorms that can form along and/or ahead of a cold front.
This comes after Met Eireann issued a number of status yellow warnings extending into tonight, with gale-force winds and flooding expected in some areas.

Alan O’Reilly, posted on Twitter from the Carlow Weather account to warn: “Squall line feature appearing on rainfall radar now.
“Winds really picking up with Roches Point gusting to 93km/h and winds will increase through this afternoon and evening.”
There is a status yellow wind warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, and Waterford.
Along with the alert came a warning of “a spell of very strong and gusty southerly winds will track eastwards this afternoon and this evening (Monday). Damaging gusts of up to 110 km/h are possible.”
This warning has been in place since11:10 am today and will remain in effect until 9:00 pm tonight, Monday, November 7.
The status yellow rain warning is then in place for Galway and Kerry as “spells of heavy rain at times today may lead to localised flooding. Highest rainfall amounts in mountainous areas.”
This alert has been in place since just after 5:00 am this morning and will remain effective until 9:00 pm tonight.
More generally, the forecast for the rest of today shows showery outbreaks of rain crossing the country through the afternoon, with strong to near gale and gusty southerly winds ahead of it. - strongest in the south and southeast.
As that band of showery rain tracks away to the east, clear spells and showers will follow from the southwest while winds will veer southwesterly and gradually ease.
There will be some clear spells and scattered showers tonight, some turning heavy or thundery, while winds are expected to ease.
Winds will increase again for a time on Tuesday “feeding in scattered heavy or thundery showers and some sunny spells,” the forecaster says.
