Ireland Under-21 sensation signs new deal, targets first-team football

Ireland Under-21 striker Sinclair Armstrong is targeting first-team football next season with QPR.

The former Shamrock Rovers prospect yesterday signed a contract extension until the summer of 2024, with the option of a further year.

His performances last year on-loan at Torquay United and Aldershot Town convinced new Loftus Road chief Michael Beale to promote him to the first-team squad for pre-season training.

Last year, the 19-year-old impressed during loan spells with both Torquay United and Aldershot Town, scoring four goals in 11 appearances across the two moves.

Sinclair reacted to his new deal by saying: “I’m over the moon. This is something I have worked hard for – and now the hard work continues.

“I joined as an Under-18 and the likes of Paul Furlong and Paul Hall - who were attacking players like me - have helped me with things like my movement.

“For me, the most important thing is to score goals and I think I have really developed into a goalscoring striker over the past year.

“I’m still progressing today and I really appreciate the support of all of the coaches here.

“My main target now is getting involved with the first-team. Hopefully I can kick on and show the gaffer what I have in the locker.

“I’ve enjoyed training with the first-team so far this pre-season and I’ve had a few chats with the gaffer.

“He said he is looking forward to working with me - and I’m looking forward to working with him, too.

“There has been a real buzz around the place since his arrival - we’re all enjoying it.”

QPR were eager to secure Armstrong’s future, after interest earlier this year in the Irish teenager from several clubs, including Premier League champions Manchester City.
