Ireland to be lashed with heavy rain before blast of sunshine makes a return

Met Eireann has issued a mixed bag forecast for Ireland with rain and sunshine.

Today will start off with sunny spells and scattered showers with some turning heavy. The highest temperatures will be around 13 to 16 degrees.

But the evening will bring outbreaks of rain and drizzle, especially in the Atlantic coastal counties.

Tonight will be mild, humid and cloudy as rain and drizzle will spread eastwards across the country with temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.

Tomorrow morning will see rain and drizzle clear eastwards as sunny spells will shine through from the west with scattered showers. The showers will gradually die out in the evening.

Temperatures will range from 13 to 17 degrees.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week:

Wednesday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Wednesday night will start off mainly dry with clear spells. Rain will develop in the west and spread to all areas overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with moderate west to southwest breezes.

Thursday

"Thursday will start off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. This rain will clear southeastwards by early afternoon with bright or sunny spells and one or two showers following from the west and northwest.

"Highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees, warmest in the southeast. Westerly winds will be fresh in Ulster and moderate further south.

Thursday night

"Thursday night will be cool and mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog. There may be a few showers near the northern coasts. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Friday

"Friday will be mainly dry with sunny spells and perhaps one or two light showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees with moderate northwest breezes."
