Ireland take T20 series after rain-affected victory over Scotland

Ireland took an unassailable 2-0 lead over Scotland in their T20 international series after a rain-affected encounter in Edinburgh.

Orla Prendergast’s unbeaten 17, which included four fours, came off just eight balls to leave the tourists, who won Monday’s first match by eight wickets, 16 runs ahead of the DLS par score when the weather intervened just five overs into their innings at Grange Cricket Club.

Saskia Horley’s 44, with two sixes and three fours, provided the backbone of Scotland’s 126 for eight from their full allocation after they had been put in following an earlier rain delay.

Horley arrived at the wicket in the seventh over with openers Ailsa Lister and Sarah Bryce both having gone for 17 and departed with the score on 114 for six with 13 balls remaining.

Cara Murray finished with two for 20 from three overs on an afternoon when four Scotland batters – Lister, Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Lorna Jack and Rachel Slater – were run out.

Slater bowled Ireland opener Gaby Lewis for 10, but Amy Hunter was unbeaten on 16 alongside Prendergast when the heavens opened with their side having reached 44 for one in reply.
