Peter O’Mahony issued some strong words towards Scotland after Ireland’s 36-14 win last night at the Stade de France.
Andy Farrell’s men were outstanding in the first half in Paris as they opened up an unassailable lead to end any faint hopes of the Scots qualifying for the quarter-final.
Scotland required a miracle to extend their Rugby World Cup campaign but Ireland showcased why they are the number one ranked side.
O’Mahony produced a colossal display on his 100th cap and the veteran flanker wasn’t impressed with some pre-match comments from some Scottish players.
Blair Kinghorn claimed that Scotland would end Ireland’s long unbeaten run but they didn’t come close to achieving that and O’Mahony made his feelings known in an interview with Irish TV.
Asked about a number of altercations during the encounter, O’Mahoney responded. “It’s part and parcel of rugby [the altercation], it’s a physical game.
‘They were in the press beforehand saying they were going to knock us off and end our streak, how they figured us out and worked us out.
“I don’t think they did, to be honest with you.”
Earlier in his interview, O’Mahony fired another subliminal shot at Gregor Townsend’s side when he claimed Ireland would have ‘bigger fish to fry’ later in the tournament.
