Callum O’Dowda has lost his fitness battle and will play no part in tonight’s Euro 2024 qualifying clash against France.
The Cardiff City ace impressed at left wing-back in last week's friendly win over Latvia and had been in line to play there tonight.
But he shipped a groin injury in recent days and was yesterday rated as highly doubtful for the opening qualifier.
Today, O’Dowda was forced to accept defeat and has been omitted from the official 23-man squad submitted to UEFA ahead of the game.
Matt Doherty could shift across from the right side to fill the void, with James McClean also pushing for inclusion.
Troy Parrott, Will Keane and Robbie Brady - a late call-up over the weekend - have also been left out of Stephen Kenny’s matchday squad.
Skipper Seamus Coleman has been included but needs to shake off a thigh strain to play, while Adam Idah is fit after missing the Latvia win with a foot injury.
