Ireland set for three-day blast of early summer hot weather before Met Eireann forecast dramatic dip

Ireland is set for an early blast of summer air, with Met Eireann forecasting three days of 20C temperatures.

A gorgeous weekend is on the cards as the weather is due to take a turn for the better on Friday.

The national forecaster says Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be mainly dry with long spells of sunshine and 20C temperatures.

It said: “High pressure looks set to build over the weekend, leading to dry, warm, and settled conditions, with temperatures possibly reaching the low 20s.”

This weekend could even be the hottest of the year so far, if it beats this year's record of 20.9C which was hit on May 15.

It marks a welcome change from the unsettled conditions the country has been experiencing, with sudden blasts of heavy rain, strong winds, hail and thunder over recent days.

However, people are being advised to make the most of the weekend as things are due to take a dramatic turn next week.

Met Eireann’s monthly forecast reads: “Early next week low pressure looks set to move in from the Atlantic, bringing more unsettled conditions once again.”

Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of Ireland’s weather forecast for this week.

Wednesday, May 25

Met Eireann’s forecast reads: “Scattered showers with sunny intervals for Wednesday. The showers becoming more isolated through the course of the afternoon before gradually dying out in the evening. Highest temperatures 13C to 17C with a mostly moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty westerly wind, strong along coasts.

“Wednesday night will start off mainly dry. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will spread from the Atlantic around midnight and extend to most areas overnight, with parts of the south and southeast holding dry. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C with a mostly light to moderate south to southwest breeze that will increase strong on Atlantic and southern coasts.”

Thursday, May 26

The national forecaster continued: “Thursday, will start off mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. This rain will clear southeastwards by early afternoon with sunny spells following. Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C degrees. Westerly winds will be mostly moderate to fresh, strong along north and northwest coasts.

“Thursday night will be cool and mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist or fog forming in southern parts where the winds will be light. There may be a few showers near northern coasts where it will stay breezy. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 8C.”

Friday, May 27

“Friday will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and warm sunny spells. Some duller conditions with some patchy outbreaks of drizzle may linger in north Ulster. A little drizzle may also affect the far southwest. Highest temperatures of 13C to 19C, mildest along southern coasts, in light to moderate northwest breezes,” the State meteorological service said.

Saturday, May 28

Its forecast for Saturday reads: “Saturday will be largely dry with sunny spells. The odd shower may affect parts of the west. After a cool start in parts, it will turn into a warm day with highest temperatures of 16C to 19C generally, holding a little cooler near northern coasts in light northerly or variable breezes.”

Sunday, May 29

“Sunday will be mainly dry with long spells of sunshine and highs of 13C to 19C or 20C, coolest along northern and northeastern fringes in light to moderate north to northeasterly breezes, which will be fresher along parts of the east and also the west coast.
