Ireland prospect Conor Coventry joins MK Dons on loan

Conor Coventry has joined forces with Troy Parrott at MK Dons after sealing a loan move until the end of the season.

The Ireland Under-21 ace makes the switch from West Ham, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Peterborough United where he made 12 appearances.

Coventry, who has three League Cup appearances for the Hammers under his belt since 2018, could make his debut in Saturday’s clash with Doncaster.

MK Dons occupy a League One playoff spot as it stands, sitting fifth in the table and six points off leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

Last March, Coventry was a late call-up to the senior Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifying openers against Serbia and Luxembourg, and the away friendly with Qatar.

Coventry, 21, said today: “I’m delighted to be here. This is a club moving in a really good direction and hopefully I can help make a positive impact towards that.

“I know how the team plays and it’s something that suits me. I’m a player who will always give my all and look to get on the ball, dictate play and help keep possession.”

MK Dons manager Liam Manning worked with Coventry at West Ham when he was the club’s Under-23 boss until 2019.

And Coventry said: “He’s someone I trust and who really helped my development so I am looking forward to working with him again.

“Hopefully I can repay his and the club’s faith in me with my performances.”

MK Dons boss Manning said: “Conor is a fantastic character, first and foremost, as well as a hard-working and talented young player who is comfortable on the ball.

“He’s suited to what we’re trying to do here. He’ll certainly bolster our squad and add to the quality that we have.”

Coventry will link up with striker Parrott, having played with him at underage level for Ireland.

Now a senior international, Parrott is on a season-long loan at MK Dons from Tottenham and has scored four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.
