Ireland confirmed for Tours base for Rugby World Cup in France

The IRFU have confirmed that Tours will be Ireland's team base for the pool stages of France 2023.

Tours is one of the largest cities in the Centre-Val de Loire and will be home to Andy Farrell's squad ahead of their Pool B games against Romania, Tonga, South Africa and Scotland in September and October of next year.

World Rugby have decreed that each team has to be based in one central training location and then travel to the match day cities.

Ireland will face Romania in Bordeaux, Tonga in Nantes and South Africa and Scotland in Paris.

An Ireland team management delegation visited Tours in January and felt it was the best place to base the squad.

Farrell's men are hoping to become the first Ireland team to progress to the semi-finals of the competition, but if they negotiation the pool stages they are expected to meet either hosts France or New Zealand in the last eight.
