The June bank holiday weekend is almost upon us, with many people’s plans dependent on the weather forecast.
There is good and bad news from Met Eireann, who have issued a very mixed forecast.
The best day of the long weekend is likely to be Saturday, with the national forecaster saying it will be mostly dry and sunny with highest temperatures of 20C.
Its forecast for Saturday reads: “Dry and sunny across most of the country, although a few showers may push into southern coastal counties at times. Highest temperatures of 14C to 20C, coolest along the east coast. Winds remaining light to moderate northeasterly.”
After that, conditions could take a terrible turn with heavy rain possible on Sunday.
A forecaster noted that there is still “some uncertainty” about Sunday’s weather, but said: “Indications are that rain will extend northwards across the country, turning heavy in places. Highs of 14C to 19C, coolest in the east and southeast, with light to moderate easterly breezes.”
Bank holiday Monday will see the country split, with western and northern areas likely to see the best of the weather.
The meteorological service said: “Bright or sunny spells on Monday. Some showers in Leinster and Munster, but mainly dry in Connacht and Ulster. Highs of 13C to 17C, with light easterly or variable breezes.”
As the bank holiday comes to a close, the weather is due to become more unsettled.
Met Eireann said: “Current indications suggest that the weather will become more unsettled from Tuesday onwards with spells of rain spreading from the southwest. Temperatures will be in the high teens or low twenties.”
