Ireland Baldwin posts Instagram message of support for father Alec: ‘I know my dad, you simply don’t’

Ireland Baldwin has shared a message of support for her father Alec following the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

The 26-year-old model shared a message of support for her father as prosecutors said it was too early to tell if criminal charges would be brought in the case.

Taking to Instagram, Ireland shared a screenshot of a comment from someone who said they previously worked with her father on the set of Thomas the Tank Engine.

The comment read: “I’d dealt with typing up some pretty goofy celebrity riders in my day but not your dad’s. He only wanted to make sure he had milk and cereal in his hotel room for when his daughter was visiting. That was it. That was the whole rider. I’ll always remember that.”

A rider is a set of requests from a performer.

Ireland wrote alongside the post: “Amongst some of the most abhorrent and threatening comments, emails, text messages, and voicemails I’ve been getting… this beautiful comment stands alone. I know my dad, you simply don’t. I love you, Dad.”

Ireland previously shared a strong message of support after right-wing commentator Candace Owens referred to the shooting as “poetic justice” in a now-deleted post. She said that Baldwin had spent “four years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers” in reference to his Saturday Night Live skits.

After deleting the tweet she posted a new one saying she will be using the term “killed” instead of “murder” as the terms carry differing legal definitions.

Responding to Owens, Ireland posted on her Instagram story: “You are the most disgusting, hateful, cancerous human being I’ve ever come across.

“Regardless of your foul opinions most of the time, the fact that you would disrespect the life of a woman who was accidentally and tragically killed... Shame on you.”

Owens isn’t the only right-wing figure to make incendiary comments over the accident. Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert tweeted a joke using an old tweet of Baldwin’s and Donald Trump Jr is now selling t-shirts emblazoned with: “Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people”. The former president’s son has also shared memes about the incident to his Instagram.

Baldwin’s wife Hilaria has also shared a public message following the tragedy.

Posting to Instagram, the 37-year-old yoga instructor said: “My heart is with Halyna. Her husband. Her son. Their family and loved ones. And my Alec.

“It’s said, ‘there are no words’ because it’s impossible to express shock and heartache of such a tragic accident. Heartbreak. Loss. Support.”

The incident happened last Thursday on the set of Rust at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe.

Hutchins, a 42-year-old rising star in the film industry, was killed. Director Joel Souza was also injured, though he is now recovering after leaving hospital.

Baldwin is said to have been told the firearm was safe when he started rehearsing a scene which involved him pointing the gun at the camera.

Prior to the shooting, two people handled the revolver, described by Carmack-Altwies as an “antique era-appropriate gun”, before it was given to Baldwin, Santa Fe county sheriff Adan Mendoza said. They were armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director David Halls, according to authorities.

Mendoza said there was “some complacency” on set but it is yet to be determined if there was negligence or by whom.

Speaking yesterday, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said that “all options are on the table” and that “no one has been ruled out” of potential charges.
