The popular presenter and actor announced the news on Friday morning, confirming that he is leaving the breakfast show to film "two big projects".

Simon said: "I'm going to be filming for a movie in a couple of weeks, then have a couple of weeks off and then I'm doing another bit of filming which means I'm going to be stepping away from Ireland AM.
"I'm here for [this] weekend, so you can't get rid of me that easily."
Killian asked if Simon could talk about his new ventures, but the Dubliner replied: "I can't really. They are two great jobs but you will be the first people to know [about them]," he added.
"I'm going to miss you though," Killian, who works as an entertainment reporter, told him. "Ah sure look it, you'll be grand," Simon said.
"You're the best co-host I ever had," Elaine told him. Returning the favour, Simon added: "You're the best co-host I ever had. I'm here Saturday and Sunday too."
"It's going to be a Simon love fest this weekend," Elaine finished.
In a major shake-up last year, Ireland AM lost several hosts including. Anna Daly, Laura Woods, Glenda Gilson and Aidan Power. While Anna Daly chose to leave her role, Laura Woods and Aidan Power were made redundant by the station.
