Iran's parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf on Wednesday said the understanding was achieved through Iran's resistance rather than American pressure or coercion.

"The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding became a declaration of America's defeat,” he said.

Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Qalibaf said the agreement reflected the strength and resilience of the Iranian people.

"The Islamabad understanding was not the result of pressure and coercion, but rather the result of the resistance and authority of the brave Iranian nation," Qalibaf said during the conference.

Regional countries must shape Middle East security

Qalibaf also argued that the political and security future of the Middle East should be determined solely by countries in the region.

Rejecting external involvement, he called for stronger cooperation among regional nations and said lasting stability could only be achieved through local initiatives.

Talks continue despite unresolved issues

His remarks come as Iran and the United States continue negotiations aimed at converting the recently agreed ceasefire framework into a broader and more durable peace arrangement.

Despite progress in diplomatic efforts, significant differences remain over issues including nuclear inspections, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader regional security architecture.
