Iran war briefing: Tehran says ‘non-hostile’ ships can pass through Strait of Hormuz

  • Iran says it has opened the Strait of Hormuz – with Tehran suggesting to the UN that ships may pass "provided that they neither participate in nor support acts of aggression” against the country.
  • Meanwhile, oil prices fell overnight as US President Donald Trump said he had sent a 15-point peace plan to Iran.
  • Officials said the US was proposing a month-long ceasefire to discuss the plan, which included dismantling Iran's main nuclear sites and uranium enrichment programme.
  • However, reports suggest the Pentagon has ordered about 2,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division to begin moving to the Middle East.
  • In the UK, the cost of Trump’s war has hit, with drivers predicted to pick up a £307m fuel bill as diesel prices soared to a three-year high.
