- The FBI issued an alert in February warning California police departments that Iran was plotting a surprise drone attack on the West Coast, according to a new report.
- The agency wrote in a bulletin that it had “recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United States Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the U.S. conducted strikes against Iran.”
- The FBI said it had “no additional information on timing, method, target, or perpetrators of this alleged attack.”
- The date the FBI sent the alert is unclear. The U.S. launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28 and it has since retaliated against U.S. military bases in the Middle East, not the U.S. homeland.
- A separate Department of Homeland Security assessment in February concluded that Iran and its proxies “probably” pose a threat in the U.S. but a large-scale attack is unlikely. President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is not fearful of an attack on U.S. soil.
