Iran denies any involvement in attack on Salman Rushdie

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani says of the stabbing of author Salman Rushdie: “No one has the right to accuse the Islamic Republic of attacking Salman Rushdie... Regarding the attack on Rushdie, we do not consider anyone other than he and his supporters worthy of blame – and even condemnation.” © AP

An Iranian government official has denied that Tehran was involved in the assault on Salman Rushdie, preferring to blame the attack on the author himself and his supporters.

Monday's comments from Nasser Kanaani – spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry – come more than two days after the attack on Rushdie in New York.
