An alleged Iranian assassination plot against former President Donald Trump has sparked controversy and denials from Iran's acting Foreign Minister. The plot, reportedly uncovered by US authorities through intelligence from a human source, led to increased security measures around the former president. The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has refuted the accusation.
During an interview, the Iranian Foreign Minister was questioned about the alleged plot being a response to the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, a senior Iranian general killed in January 2020. The minister emphasized resorting to legal and judicial procedures at domestic and international levels to bring those responsible for Soleimani's death to justice.
When asked about the use of violent measures, the minister reiterated a commitment to utilizing Iranian and international legal frameworks exclusively. He stressed the pursuit of justice through fair legal processes, citing the Americans' admission of Soleimani's assassination as justification for Iran's actions.
The minister affirmed Iran's right to seek justice for Soleimani's killing and vowed to continue pursuing legal avenues to hold the perpetrators accountable. The full interview with the Iranian Foreign Minister will be broadcast on “Fareed Zakaria GPS” on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
