Iran has strongly condemned Israel's recent deadly strikes on Beirut, labeling the attack as a 'war crime' and accusing the United States of complicity. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian characterized the strikes as a 'flagrant war crime' that once again highlights what he referred to as the 'terrorist nature' of the Israeli regime, as reported by the state news agency Press TV.
The Iranian foreign ministry also criticized the strike in Beirut's suburbs, denouncing it as a 'barbaric' act that was made possible by American-supplied bombs. The ministry's spokesman Nasser Kanaani emphasized the need for both the Israeli and American governments to be held accountable for their roles in the incident.
Furthermore, Kanaani highlighted that the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestine and Lebanon undermines Western calls for a ceasefire, suggesting that such calls only serve to prolong what he described as 'Zionist atrocities' in the region.
US Response
In response to the accusations, the United States clarified that Israel had notified them only moments before carrying out the strikes in Beirut. President Joe Biden stated that the US had 'no knowledge of or participation in' the attack, distancing the country from any involvement in the incident.
