Iran's ambassador to the United Nations has accused the United States of being responsible for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The ambassador claimed that the US could not have carried out the assassination without authorization and intelligence support.
In a speech at the United Nations Security Council, the Iranian ambassador emphasized the US's role as a strategic ally and main supporter of Israel in the region. He stated that the US cannot evade responsibility for what he described as a 'horrific crime.'
Hamas announced that Ismail Haniyeh, its political leader, was killed in an overnight strike in Tehran, Iran. While Israel has not confirmed or denied involvement in the assassination, the Iranian ambassador suggested that Israel had political motives for the act.
The ambassador highlighted that Israel's alleged goal was to disrupt the first day of the new government of Iran, which aims to strengthen peace and stability in the region and engage constructively with the international community.
On the other hand, the US Deputy Ambassador denied any US involvement in Haniyeh's death. He stated that the United States was not aware of or connected to the incident and had no independent confirmation of Hamas's claims regarding the assassination.
