Iqbal and Garnacho start - Manchester United fans name starting line-up they want to see vs Charlton

Manchester United supporters have called on Erik ten Hag to name a strong side for the Carabao Cup tie against League One outfit Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.

Ten Hag's side defeated Aston Villa and Burnley in the previous rounds of the competition, and the upcoming tie with the Addicks is the Reds' first of four matches in just 12 days. United have won their last seven matches in all competitions and will be aiming to seal their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

The Reds overcame Everton in their last game on Friday night, with strikes from Antony and Marcus Rashford, as well as a Conor Coady own goal, securing the club's place in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Ten Hag's men currently find themselves in fourth position in the Premier League - level on points with Newcastle with a game in hand.

With the clash against Charlton providing the Reds with an opportunity to go one step closer to winning a trophy, MEN Sport's United readers have opted to choose a strong line-up for the match against Dean Holden's men, while also giving a few youngsters a chance to impress.

Goalkeeper - Jack Butland

The English shot-stopper signed for United on loan until the end of the season last week, replacing Martin Dubravka as the club's second-choice goalkeeper after the Slovak was recalled by Newcastle. Butland is not expected to feature heavily for the Reds, but given the fact he is unlikely to play in either the Premier League or Europa League, it would not be a surprise to see him play in the Carabao Cup.

Defenders - Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia

With Martinez and Maguire both in need of minutes - for different reasons - United fans want to see the pair start together against Charlton. The former is still recovering after Argentina's World Cup triumph, while club captain Maguire is, at least at the minute, only being properly used in cup competitions.

Luke Shaw played at centre-back alongside Raphael Varane against Everton and impressed, but it would certainly come as a surprise if he played there against Manchester City at the weekend. Reds supporters are keen for Wan-Bissaka and Malacia to get a chance on Tuesday night, and they are both expected to start.

Midfielders - Scott McTominay, Fred, Zidane Iqbal

Bruno Fernandes is suspended, and Christian Eriksen and Casemiro could be rested. Therefore, with the club's first-choice midfield unlikely to start, fans have backed McTominay, Fred and youngster Iqbal to form the midfield trio against Charlton.

Both Fred and McTominay have fallen down the pecking order in recent months and have been forced to settle for minutes off the bench. However, with the Reds expected to dominate the ball against Holden's side, they - and Iqbal - will get the chance to shine at Old Trafford.

Forwards - Antony, Anthony Martial, Alejandro Garnacho

Although Marcus Rashford has been in scintillating form, it makes sense to give him a rest with so many matches coming up in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, Antony - who was on the scoresheet against Everton - is still looking to properly kick-start his United career, so the clash with Charlton gives him the perfect opportunity to impress. He has been tipped to start on the right wing.

On the other flank, talented youngster Alejandro Garnacho should get another chance to start. The Argentine has scored two goals in 10 appearances this term, including a vital winner against Fulham before the World Cup break. Reds supporters want to see Martial lead the line, and with the club not yet having signed a new striker, he almost certainly will.
