Ipswich Town vs Manchester United F.C. Stats Ahead Of Sunday's Clash

Ruben Amorim is set to take charge of his first Premier League fixture this weekend, so let’s take a look at the key Ipswich Town vs Manchester United F.C. stats ahead of the action in Suffolk on Sunday.

Ipswich Town vs Manchester United F.C. Stats Ahead Of Sunday 4.30pm League Clash

Manchester United head to Suffolk to take on newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday evening, with Ruben Amorim taking charge of his new team for the first time.

Just seven points separate the pair in the bottom half of the Premier League table in the lead up to the clash, and both sides are unbeaten in their last two league matches with a win and a draw apiece.

Last time out, the Tractor Boys secured their first English top-flight victory of the campaign with an impressive 2-1 triumph away at Tottenham. Meanwhile, Manchester United comfortably dispatched Leicester City 3-0.

United, who are unbeaten across all competitions since parting ways with Erik ten Hag, will be desperate to maintain their strong form as of late, while Amorim is expected to implement his preferred tactics right off the bat.

Sunday’s clash will be the first time that the Red Devils and Ipswich have met since 2015, when United ran out as 3-0 winners in the EFL Cup third round thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial.

Manchester United Favourites In Ruben Amorim’s First Game

The UK’s best football betting sites are favouring the Red Devils to claim all three points in Suffolk on Sunday evening at around 4/7, with a draw priced at 16/5, while a shock win for Ipswich is rated at 9/2.

Red Devils Were Comfortable Victors When The Pair Last Met

As previously mentioned, the pair last faced off in September 2015 in the EFL Cup third round, where the Red Devils claimed a comfortable 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial were the scorers as United advanced to the fourth round of the cup, where they were beaten on penalties by Middlesbrough.

Ipswich and Manchester United Last Met In The Premier League In 2002

You’d have to go all the way back to April 2002 to find the last time that Ipswich and Manchester United met in the Premier League.

United’s interim boss following Ten Hag’s departure, Ruud van Nistelrooy, scored the sole goal from the spot in that one, contributing to his second-place finish in the Premier League goalscoring charts that term.

The Red Devils would go on to finish the season in third place, three points behind runners-up Liverpool and 10 points behind champions Arsenal, while the Tractor Boys were relegated after finishing in 18th place.

United Recorded Record 9-0 Win Over Tractor Boys In 1995

This fixture also produced one of the most iconic matches in the league’s history, with United’s thumping 9-0 victory over Ipswich back in March 1995 setting a league record for the biggest winning margin in a Premier League game.

The record remains intact to this day, however it has been matched on three occasions since, with Leicester defeating Southampton 9-0 in October 2019, United thrashing Southampton 9-0 in February 2021, and most recently, Liverpool triumphing 9-0 over Bournemouth in August 2022.

Ipswich vs Manchester United Stats Suggest Perfect Start Awaits Amorim

Although they have met just once in the last 20 years, history is on the side of Manchester United, as they have claimed victory in each of their last four games against Ipswich across all competitions.

Across their last 10 meetings, United have prevailed in six of them, two have ended in draws, and the Tractor Boys have won just two.

Within those 10 games, the Red Devils scored a whopping 24 goals, while Ipswich managed just seven. Only three of their last 10 meetings saw both teams getting on the scoresheet.

These stats bode well for Amorim and co. as he makes his foray into English football, but of course, both clubs and the sport itself have undergone drastic changes since these matches were played.

Key Players: Bruno Fernandes and Liam Delap The Standouts

Despite a poor start to the campaign by his standards, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has seemingly found his feet for the Red Devils and is now providing goalscoring returns.

Since Ten Hag’s exit, the 30-year-old has either scored or assisted in every game that he has featured in.

He scored twice in the EFL Cup against Leicester last month and netted his first Premier League goal of the season against Chelsea in the following game.

Fernandes doubled his tally in the league when United faced Leicester (again) prior to the international window, scoring and assisting in the 3-0 victory. He also scored for Portugal in their 5-1 win over Poland in the Nations League last week.

Undoubtedly Ipswich’s star performer this term, the Red Devils will have to keep Manchester City academy graduate Liam Delap quiet if they are to have any success at Portman Road this weekend.

21-year-old Delap already has six league goals this term, half of the Tractor Boys’ total (12) in the Premier League.

The England Under-21 international had a hand in both of his side’s goals in the 2-1 win over Tottenham prior to the international window, Ipswich’s first league win of the season, assisting Sammie Szmodics’ opener before netting the second 12 minutes later.

His other goals have come against Brentford, West Ham, Fulham and Aston Villa, with a brace coming against the latter.
