IPL: Did MS Dhoni's 'mantra' help Marcus Stoinis in record-breaking performance against CSK?

NEW DELHI: Marcus Stoinis propelled Lucknow Super Giants to a remarkable victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. Stoinis' breathtaking innings not only secured victory but also etched his name in IPL history books with the highest individual score in a successful run-chase.

Stoinis' remarkable performance at the daunting fortress of Chepauk was not merely a feat of skill but a manifestation of wisdom imparted by none other than former CSK captain, MS Dhoni.

IPL 2024: POINTS TABLE | ORANGE CAP | PURPLE CAP

In a post-match revelation shared by LSG on social media, Stoinis disclosed Dhoni's invaluable advice on handling pressure in big games in a video dated February 24, 2024.

"MS Dhoni said one thing to me. He said in big games, everyone thinks that I've got to do something extra. I've got to do something different. His mantra and how he speaks to himself is he stays there, he stands still and he says everyone else is going to change. I'm going to be the only one here that doesn't change and that holds him ahead of everyone else," Stoinis recounted, reflecting on Dhoni's composed approach amidst high-stakes encounters.

Drawing inspiration from Dhoni's mantra, Stoinis executed a masterclass in batting, surpassing former Punjab Kings' batter Paul Valthaty's record to register the highest individual score in a successful run-chase in IPL history.

Stoinis' unbeaten 124 off just 63 balls, adorned with 13 boundaries and six towering sixes, showcased his sheer dominance and determination on the field.

With a staggering strike rate of 196.83, Stoinis' innings not only dismantled CSK's formidable bowling attack but also propelled LSG into the top four in the points table.
