When is the iPhone 15 coming out, and what new features can we expect?

Apple officially launched the iPhone 15 range during a gala event at its headquarters in California on September 12.

Like last year, there are four eye-catching models to choose from, including Apple’s most expensive iPhone to date, all of which are available to pre-order now.

Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s latest smartphone, including key features, price, and the all-important release date.

What features does the iPhone 15 have?

If you’re looking to upgrade, you have four options to choose from. There’s the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Both come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes, respectively.

But, that’s where the similarities end. The two variants offer vastly different specs that should impact everything from their battery power to their image quality.

The standard iPhone 15 comes in a range of lively colours such as pink, yellow, and green (Apple)

iPhone 15: key features

The standard iPhone 15 boasts several noticeable upgrades over the iPhone 14: a USB-C port, an interactive screen cutout instead of a plain notch, and an improved chip and 48MP camera borrowed from last year’s iPhone 14 Pro. The last of those is especially signifcant as the iPhone 14 had a 12MP main camera.

As usual, Apple is promising even better-zoomed shots, low-light snaps, and stablisation across video and stills. Notably, the iPhone’s screen is also twice as bright outdoors, which should make it a lot clearer when it is sunny.

Looks-wise, the iPhone 15 has squared-off edges compared to the more rounded curves on its predecessor. All told, it offers a substantial jump over the iPhone 14, and should wipe the floor with even older models.

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: key features

The iPhone 15 Pro has three rear cameras compared to two on the regular iPhone 15 (Apple)

Apple saved the best upgrades for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. Firstly, there’s the titanium design, making them lighter but just as strong as their predecessors. Whereas other iPhones come in stainless steel.

Under the hood, the A17 Pro chip is the fastest smartphone processor on the market if you believe Apple. Even the phone’s minor improvements could pay off, like the action button that replaces the mute switch and offers quick access to apps and tools.

Better yet, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has the longest optical zoom on an iPhone thanks to its new 5x telephoto camera — for when you want to snap faraway subjects. It also has a slightly bigger battery: Apple says the Pro Max can handle a staggering 29 hours of video playback, while the Pro can manage a respectable 23 hours.

How much does the iPhone 15 cost?

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus start from £799 and £899 for 128GB of storage, respectively. Of course, you’ll have to pay extra for additional storage.

While the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max start from £999 and £1,199 for 256GB of storage, respectively. Both offer a maximum 1TB of storage for those willing to fork out more.

When is the iPhone 15 release date?

Although you can pre-order the iPhone 15 range now, the phones won’t be released until September 22.

Delivery times for the iPhone 15 Pro Max have also slipped into mid-October, likely due to high demand.
