Iowa's Altoona Police Department took to Facebook to beg users to stop sending them nasty messages meant for the Pennsylvania department that arrested the suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO killer.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Iowa Altoona Police Department said it has been receiving unfriendly comments from users looking to support Luigi Mangione, the man accused of shooting and killing CEO Brian Thompson.

"So, this is Altoona IOWA Police Department. We enjoy reading the tags and comments intended for PA (some of them are not so Iowa nice), but they go unread by the APD – PA, just by us Midwesterners," the department said.

The Altoona Police Department, located about 15 miles northeast of Des Moines, congratulated the department of the same name for apprehending the suspect in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and did its best to differentiate the two departments.

"We've been following the manhunt for United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson's murderer as well – from IOWA. Looks like a possible suspect was arrested in Altoona, PENNSYLVANIA. Good work by all law enforcement agencies to identify the killer. Thank you to the caller, who recognized his eyebrows and called police in PENNSYLVANIA," the department said.

The department tried to acknowledge that it was in a bit of a funny situation, adding that it would offer to buy members of the Pennsylvania Altoona Police Department ice cream from McDonald's if they were ever in town. "Ope, if the machine is working," the department added.

Despite the clarification, the department's post was still riddled with comments in support of Mangione.

"Snitches in Altoona! What a lame place," one user commented. "THIS IS COMPLETELY UNJUST. RELEASE HIM NOW," another wrote.

Mangione was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania after a worker reportedly recognized him. He is now charged with second-degree murder after he was initially brought in for gun charges.
