Iowa is now inspecting its certified nursing homes on schedule for the first time in years, closing a gap that had left facilities going months longer than federal rules allow between recertification surveys, according to a report from State Auditor Rob Sand.
The report, released August 3, found that Iowa nursing homes are being inspected on average every 12 months based on data released June 1, bringing the state into compliance with requirements set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. A 2024 report from the same office found the statewide average was 17.1 months.
