iOS 18.0.1: Apple releases software update to fix several iPhone bugs

As widely expected, Apple has released a software update for iPhone aimed at fixing some of the problems associated with iOS 18.

Apple said it will correct things like unresponsive touchscreens on the iPhone 16, freezing cameras when recording certain types of video, and issues with messages and general performance.

Alas, iOS 18.0.1 (as it’s known) isn’t to be confused with iOS 18.1, the meatier software update that should bring Apple Intelligence to iPhone 15 Pros and iPhone 16 later this October.

All told, the new update is relatively small, with a file size of 478.2 MB, meaning you shouldn’t have to clear up room on your iPhone to install it.

Those who have downloaded it have noticed that their iPhones are running more smoothly and apps like Safari are snappier than before.

It's pretty common for major iOS updates to come with bugs, from battery drain to overheating, and iOS 18 was no different.

The most pervasive issue unleashed by the update was the emergence of “dead spots” on iPhones, which essentially made the entire display unresponsive if your hand touched the outer part of the screen.

How to download iOS 18.0.1

There’s a chance you may already have the new update on your iPhone. Apple’s devices typically download software updates automatically overnight over wi-fi when plugged into charge.

To check if you have it, head to settings>general>software update to see which version of iOS 18 you have and grab the latest update if it hasn’t already downloaded.

Updates for iPad, Mac and Apple Watch

It’s not just iPhones getting updates. Apple has also released iPad OS 18.0.1, WatchOS 11.0.1 and MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1.

Of these, the iPad update is arguably the most significant as it finally brings iOS 18 to the latest iPad Pros, which were initially bricked by the big update.
