IOA chief Narinder Batra files impersonation complaint

NEW DELHI: After a brief suspension of hostilities, Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) officials are back to what they often do - accusing each other of alleged illegality and misgovernance. In the latest episode, IOA chief Narinder Dhruv Batra on Wednesday filed a police complaint against an anonymous person for "impersonating" him to send emails in his name to the members of the national Olympic committee.

While Batra didn't specify the emails sent in his name, it's largely been seen directed towards one particular official of the IOA. In his complaint to the Delhi Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Cyber Cell at Dwarka, Batra wrote: ". . . a person is impersonating me as president IOA and sending emails. Accordingly, your attention is drawn to the attached emails which have been sent by the offender, impersonating the undersigned. Would be grateful if this issue be investigated and be taken to a logical conclusion."

Later in the day, Batra, in a surprise move, in formed the IOA's Executive Council (EC)about the change in the association's official website and email address following secretary general Rajeev Mehta's alleged refusal to share the password with the IOA's office staff. This was after Batra had written to Mehta, expressing his displeasure over the latter's alleged move to change the IOA's official email address and password after its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 19 here. Batra had alleged that Mehta had been putting "incorrect information" on the website.

Subjecting his email as "resolution by circulation", Batra wrote to EC members: "…I have received approvals from 18/31 members of the EC i.e. 58.06 percent. Two members haven't approved and 11 haven't replied so far. Since the majority has already approved, hence effective immediately the official email id of the IOA will only be ioa2022official@gmail.com and the earlier email of IOA i.e. IOA@olympic.ind. in becomes invalid."

"…all emails/letters sent by IOA secretary general after changing the password will be treated as invalid and will have no legal sanctity. The present website of the IOA www.olympic.ind.in becomes invalid effective immediately," informed Batra, adding that a new IOA website will be created "on priority".
