Fire crews have issued a statement following a blaze at Morely Hayes Golf Club, outlining the cause of the incident. A fire broke out at the popular leisure spot in Morley near Ilkeston on Tuesday night (June 20) and a number of crews, including Ilkeston, Nottingham Road, Heanor and Kingsway, were called to put it out.
No injuries were reported, but the fire destroyed a large outbuilding on the site. It also caused significant damage to some of tractors and mowers, which play a vital role in keeping the grassland and golf course usable.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue has now detailed what it believes to have caused the incident, according to Derbyshire Live. The emergency service says the blaze was most likely accidental and started due to electrical items.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to fire involving a single-storey outbuilding at a golf course on Main Road, Morley, Ilkeston, at 10.47pm on Tuesday, June 20. On-call and whole time firefighters from Ilkeston, Nottingham Road, Heanor and Kingsway, initially attended the incident.
"They were supported by Ascot Drive with the aerial ladder platform and Long Eaton with the command support unit. A fire investigation has determined the most likely cause to be accidental due to electrical items."
A statement from Morley Hayes said: "We would like to reassure you that all of our facilities are open as normal and there will be no disruption to our services."
Overlooking parkland golf courses, Morley Hayes Hotel and golf complex boasts a luxury four-star, 32-bedroom hotel with a choice of three restaurants - including the award-winning, dual AA rosette Dovecote restaurant, Roosters and Spike Bar.
Earlier this year work on a new buggy path around the golf course was completed. The newly built pathway enabled golf buggies to access the Morley Hayes golf course all year round.
