POLICE have said investigations remain ongoing after human remains were discovered in the wreckage of a plane crash off the coast of Scotland.
The force said on Sunday that remains were found inside a small aircraft which was recovered from the North Sea, north east of Lerwick, Shetland.
The plane was discovered by mercy crews on Friday afternoon and brought ashore by a fishing boat.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police received a report of a small aircraft having been recovered from the water in the North Sea, north east of Lerwick, around 2.20pm on Friday, December 6.
“The aircraft was brought to shore on Sunday, December 8 and human remains were found within.”
In October 2023, a light aircraft lost contact over the North Sea in the area between Shetland and Norway.
The plane had taken off from Germany with one person on board.
