Recent developments in the investigation of a possible spy balloon found off the coast of Alaska have captured the attention of federal agencies. Last week, commercial fishermen discovered debris in the waters, which was later identified as a spy balloon by the Defense Department. This marks the first official acknowledgment of the object's nature.
The FBI, upon reviewing images of the balloon, noted similarities to a Chinese surveillance balloon that drifted off course and was shot down by the US military last February. Subsequently, the Defense Department took custody of the balloon, which is now undergoing forensic analysis at a military base in Alaska.
