Investigation as CCTV footage shows the moment ambulance and car collide

An investigation will be launched by police after an ambulance collided with a car in a busy Nottinghamshire street. The incident, which took place in Mansfield Road, in the Carrington area, has left three in hospital, according to East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A paramedic response car can be seen on CCTV footage weaving between vehicles, then colliding head-on with a vehicle in the street. The rapid response vehicle was on the way to an incident at the time, just before 11.25am on Wednesday, May 10.

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said in a statement: "One of our fast response vehicles responding to a 999 call was involved in a road traffic collision involving a car in Carrington at 11.23am on Wednesday 10 May. Three patients were assessed at the scene and were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre via crewed ambulance.

"The incident will be investigated by the police and it is therefore inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.” This comes after Nottinghamshire police reported that two people had been taken to hospital.

Those close to the incident, which took place between Tavistock Drive and A611 Hucknall Road, said that they heard a loud bang when the two cars collided. Others noted that the incident looked serious.

Public transport was also diverted, with Nottingham City Transport informing service users to expect disruption to Lime 56, 57, 58,59 and Purple 87, 88, 89 services. There has been a large police presence in the street since the incident, with EMAS and Nottinghamshire police attending. A cordon was put in place while emergency services attended the scene.

Recovery vehicles have also been at the incident. Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: "We were called at 11.26am to the A60 in Carrington after a collision between an ambulance and a car.

"Two people travelling in the car have been taken to hospital. Thankfully their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time. Road has been closed and diversions are in place."
