Inverness TikTok star had record label reps queuing up at her work to sign her

Katie Gregson-MacLeod has racked up millions of views on TikTok

TIKTOK singing sensation Katie Gregson-MacLeod has made waves with the release of her new single – inspiring cover versions from artists like Camila Cabello and Tom Walker.

Edinburgh University student Gregson-MacLeod, 21, became an overnight sensation when she posted a 45-second long clip of her track on TikTok.

She woke up one morning to find 100,000 views on the video, and within weeks clips of the track racked up millions of views.

This led to record label representatives queuing up with the hope of signing her at the Inverness coffee shop where she spends her summer breaks working.

Gregson-MacLeod told The Times: “We walked into Perk [Coffee & Doughnuts] and there were three of the major labels on each table.

“It was quite funny to have all the major labels come up here to Inverness. It was bizarre.”

The rising star said it had been difficult to pick between the labels hoping to bag her, but she “went with her gut” in the end and opted for Columbia – the firm which represents Harry Styles and Beyonce among other major stars.

A longer version of the demo single which helped her gain such recognition, titled Complex, was officially released on Friday – and it’s thought it could top the charts this week.

In just four days, the track has racked up nearly 2 million listens on Spotify alone.

The songwriter, who was named one of the top 25 Scottish artists to watch out for this year, said: “It’s been wild the last few days. It’s all exciting stuff even if it is a bit overwhelming.”

Gregson-MacLeod will continue working at her coffee shop for now, where she says staff are "buzzing" about her success.
