Tension prevailed in Bhilwara city in Rajasthan on Wednesday after an incident of stabbing of a 22-year-old man by two persons from another community. The district administration suspended mobile Internet services for 24 hours in the town to check the spread of rumours and to maintain law and order.
The shops and commercial establishments in Bhilwara remained closed following a bandh call given by some groups. The organisations also staged a demonstration in protest against the late-night incident of May 10, when the young man, a resident of Shastri Nagar locality, was killed near the Kotwali police station.
The youth was allegedly stabbed to death when he went to resolve a dispute involving his younger brother with some persons belonging to another community.
Members of the groups assembled outside the mortuary in Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital, where the body of the deceased was kept, and demanded immediate arrest of the accused as well as financial assistance for the next of kin of the deceased. Additional police force was deployed at sensitive places in the city to control the situation.
