Disneyland Paris have come under fire after a video showing an employee ruining a couple’s proposal went viral online.
The incident showed a staff member snatch a ring box out of a man’s hand mid proposal before instructing him to move off the platform the couple were standing on.
Internet opinion was divided over whether the couple should have been up on the scaffolding but most agreed that the staff member’s actions were disrespectful towards the lovebirds.
“Maybe they shouldn’t have been up there but couldn’t he just let them have their special moment?”, one user commented on Instagram.
The original video was uploaded to Reddit by a friend of the couple’s, who claimed that the man had sought permission to use the platform facing Sleeping Beauty’s castle for the memorable occasion.
The would-be groom is heard muttering “she said yes” to the employee as he orders them to step aside.
“Yes, that’s great, but over here will be even better,” the Disney worker responds.
Social media users were quick to denounce the staff member’s actions, with one person suggesting that Disney should offer to pay the couple’s wedding costs as an apology.
Onlookers can be heard booing as the employee gestures for the confused couple to move away from the area. The woman had said yes moments prior to the interruption.
A spokesperson for Disney told Newsweek that they had gotten in touch with the couple to apologise for the interruption.
“We regret how this was handled. We have apologized to the couple involved and offered to make it right," the spokesperson said.
The staff member has yet to identified, although the couple are believed to be American.
