An Adelaide Festival performer has been charged over an "indecent act" on an international flight to Australia where he was due to perform, a court has heard.

Aleh Sidorchyk faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link from the City Watchhouse charged with committing an act of indecency on another person while on board an aircraft.

He is alleged to have committed the crime on a Malaysian Airlines Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide on Sunday.

The court heard Mr Sidorchyk was Belarusian and travelling to Australia to perform at the Adelaide Festival with a troupe of about 20 people.

The court heard the 61-year-old was due to be in Australia until March 7.

Magistrate Ben Sale released Mr Sidorchyk on bail, on the condition he surrender his passport, to allow him to attend his performances which are being held at night.

Mr Sidorchyk will stay at a CBD hotel and will be required to present at the Hindley Street police station.

Adelaide Festival chief executive Kath Mainland said an actor had been charged and will reappear in court next week.

"As the matter is before the courts, we are unable to comment any further," she said in a statement.
