Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5: where to watch, winner, contestants, host, judge and everything we know

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 stars (l-r) Francesca, Roisin, Benat, Anthony, Domnall, Alan Carr, Michelle Ogundehin, Sheree, Matt, Ash, Jess, Hannah.

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 returned for a new series as ten amateur designers battled it out to win a commercial interior design contract.

Each week, the contestants worked alone or as a team to transform a commercial space with imaginative interior design. This year's spaces included turning former nun’s cells into B&Bs, revamping activity centres at Chester Zoo, transforming Wembley dressing rooms and remodelling holiday lodges at Blenheim Palace.

The designers came from diverse backgrounds and had very different signature styles, from the "Victorian Maximalist" to the "Elegant Brutalist" and the "Colourful Traditionalist" which they could all apply to each redesign challenge.

The winner received a life-changing prize — a collaboration contract with a global homeware brand to produce their own line of home furnishings.

Design expert and former editor of Elle Decoration Michelle Ogundehin returned as the series judge and she decided which designers created her "Stand Out Space" and who was sent home each week.

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 episode guide

Episode one - Tuesday, March 12

Host Alan Carr sent the ten novice designers off to a former convent in Norfolk, where they transformed nuns' cells into single bed B&B bedrooms, demonstrating their signature style. Judges Michelle Ogundehin and Abigail Ahern decided who won Stand-Out Space and who was the first to leave.

Episode two - Tuesday, March 19

The remaining designers split into three teams to create activity centres for school children visiting Chester Zoo themed around the wildlife of Brazil, India and Madagascar. Michelle Ogundehin and guest Sophie Robinson were on hand to ensure they added fun elements and judge which team created the best space - and ultimately decided which designer goes home.

Episode three - Tuesday, March 26

The designers created their own personal interpretations of high-end sophistication and luxury as they each decorated their own hospitality box at Ascot Racecourse, setting the table for afternoon tea as judge Michelle Ogundehin and guest Kelly Hoppen decided who won Stand Out Space and who went home.

Episode four - Tuesday, April 2

The designers worked directly with clients for the first time as they worked their magic on three Swansea cafes. With briefs ranging from "Scandi-by-the-sea" to "Industrial Chic," the contestants worked in pairs to come up with cohesive plans to improve the ambience and dining experience before Michelle Ogundehin and guest judge Nisha Katona made their decisions.

Episode five - Tuesday, April 9

The remaining designers demonstrated reversible design as they were challenged to make a rental apartment a more personalised and homely space without losing the deposit at the end of the tenancy. Shayne Brady joined Michelle Ogudehin to decide who went through to the quarter-final.

Episode six - Tuesday, April 16

The remaining designers paired up to transform two Grade II listed shops in East Grinstead, battling the challenges that came with medieval buildings and planning regulations to improve the layout and footfall. Mary Portas joined Michelle Ogundehin to judge the designers' efforts.

Episode eight - Tuesday, April 23

The three semi-finalists were tasked with transforming dressing rooms backstage at Wembley Arena, they needed to include hair and make-up stations, an area for the entourage to hang out and a bathroom fit for an A-lister. Michelle Ogundehin was joined by guest judge Sophie Ellis-Bextor to decide who would go through to the final.

Episode nine (The Final) - Tuesday, April 30

In the grand final, the contestants redesigned holiday lodges in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. In their last chance to impress Michelle Ogudehin and guest judge Jonathan Adler they took inspiration from their surroundings and showed off all they had learned in the competition before one designer won a major collaboration contract.

Roisin was crowned the winner of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 after beating runner-up Matt in redesigning holiday lodges at Blenheim Palace.

Colour-mad Roisin impressed the judges throughout the series with her bold, floral transformations.

"To go up against Matt who’s insanely talented and to win, that was like 'wow', I was in complete shock, I was shaking like a leaf," she said.

Who left Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5?

Week One: Sheree was the first contestant to be sent home after the judges failed to pinpoint what her signature style was in her B&B bedroom.

Week Two: Ash was the second designer to be eliminated, who worked alongside Ben and Jess to transform a classroom at Chester Zoo into an Indian-inspired hideaway that reflected the wildlife of India.

Week Three: It was a double elimination in week three as Hannah and Jess were voted off after failing to impress with their corporate hospitality box transformation at Ascot Racecourse.

Week Four: Domnall was the fifth person to be eliminated after he and Francesca worked their magic on a Swansea café. Unfortunately, his small chairs didn't sit well for Michelle and Nadia and he was sent home.

Week Five: Francesca Kletz became the sixth person to be eliminated from the series. The stars were tasked with transforming Sheffield rental flats in a way that wouldn't cost tenants their deposits, and whilst the judges loved her take on the bedroom, they felt there was too much going on in the lounge she redesigned and said she strayed "a little into nursery-ville and Francesca-ville."

Week Six: Anthony left in the quarter-finals after he was was paired with Roisin to makeover a handbag shop to draw customers in. They both ended up on the sofa after Matt and Ben impressed the judges with their crystal shop transformation next door. Despite winning two Stand Out Spaces, Anthony was sent home and judge Michelle was in tears at his elimination.

Week Seven: Ben was eliminated in the semi-final after creating an unforgettable all-white dressing room at Wembley Arena. However, the colour was a huge "practical" mistake and he was sent home.

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 host

Comedian Alan Carr returns as the show host, which he began presenting in 2021 after taking over the role from Fearne Cotton.

He said of the designers taking part this year: "The key to the show success is the designers, it’s getting the right mix, not just of personalities but design styles. This year does not disappoint: we have quirky designers, serious designers but the one thing they have in common is that they are designers who are just starting out. On this show you always think that you’ve seen everything and then a designer comes along with something so uniquely beautiful, or in some cases hideously awful, but you are always surprised whether in a good way or bad!"

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr season 5 judge
